competition is up when the economy is down

When the going gets tough...yes things are clearly slowing down and people are nervous about it. But whether we are in for a hard landing or not, there will be more competition for less demand - so less money to waste. Waste includes unproductive time as well as unnecessary expense and resource use. The winners in this time will be those who ensure they have both their value propositions and their processes tight. This will still require innovation. But this just may need to be less experimental than before - more targeted, better managed, and more customer focussed. Innovation is an investment not an expense and innovators are winners.
