connection junkies

Do you sometimes feel tangled in the web? Confused by the busyness of your social media sites? Random connections, constant invites, meaningless time-wasting apps, or just plain noise? Some people use social media to connect to as many people as they possibly can. For others its clearly about knowing your audience (and this is where facebook and twitter have it over blogging).  But for the connection junkies it's the modern stamp album; collecting as many "friends" or "followers" as they can. The Osen Komura experiment, for example, recently found 17% of people on twitter follow total strangers who simply follow them (I admit I have done this). Maybe it makes us feel alive, maybe its a badge of popularity, but if you're not careful, connection junkies can seriously tangle your social media if you fall for them. The secret is simple - don't connect with random people unless you want to see random traffic in your day.
