passing observations on webolution

There is a constant stream (river?) of commentary on the shifts and developments that is the evolution of web media. While market research companies try and claim the position as the independent monitor by using old-fashioned methods and dubious definitions (reference to recent Nielsen article - see Mark Garner's view at SWOM), others debate terminology such as social media  ( I remember campaigns to take the e out of ecommerce because after a while we realised it was actually just commerce; and how many decades will new media be around?).  Anyway - the real deal on usability, Jakob Nielsen (no relation to the above reference), is a great observer of humanity and the medium and he is seeing we get slower as we get older. The web really is just a reflection of society - why do we get so surprised by this?
